Tirana, Albania — May 6, 2026.

As part of the World Law Conference, held from May 6 to 9 in the Albanian capital, José Luis Manzano, President of Integra Capital, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) by the Polytechnic University of Tirana.

The distinction was formally presented by the university’s Rector, Akli Fundo, who highlighted Manzano’s career and his contributions to the business sector and economic development. The ceremony was attended by Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and the President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, among other authorities.

Argentine jurist Ricardo Gil Lavedra delivered the introductory remarks, reviewing Manzano’s public and entrepreneurial trajectory and underscoring his role in a pivotal chapter of recent Argentine history: “José Luis Manzano was an extremely important figure in Argentina’s democratic transition. Transitions from dictatorship to democracy are never easy: you know where you are coming from, but not where you are going.”

Manzano’s Address

Upon receiving the distinction, Manzano expressed his gratitude and reflected on the institutional setting of the recognition: “This acknowledgment takes on a special meaning when granted in the context of the World Law Conference, a space for reflection on the role of law in the contemporary world.” He added: “This is not only an honor — it is a new responsibility.”

During his address, he highlighted the ties built with Albania and drew a parallel with Argentina’s own path toward institutional consolidation: “We come from a dictatorship, and we built a democracy with pain and hope.” In that spirit, he called for safeguarding democratic coexistence even in moments of deep political polarization: “Even in times of intense polarization, we must call brothers those who think differently. Those who oppose us are adversaries, not enemies.”

He closed by stressing the need to strengthen institutions and sustain dialogue between nations amid an increasingly complex international landscape: “The only way to prevent war is to restore the value of dialogue.”
